As a partner in a law firm, she helps clients navigate surrogacy issues, untangle family law problems and recover after being injured. As a community member and mom, she volunteers, organizes and gives back. The foundation of all of her efforts is her commitment to come up with the perfect solution for any obstacle. “Whatever the issue, I want to get to the core of the problem and come up with a strategy,” Shayla explains. “With creativity, hard work and honesty, we can get things resolved positively and fairly.” Shayla has tried dozens of cases and is well-respected by her peers for her candor and good judgment. She was been selected as a Rising Star in her field for three consecutive years from 2015 to 2017. She has contributed to the legal profession by speaking at the Iowa Bar Association annual convention and by serving as the compliance officer for the Polk County Women Attorneys, and she currently serves as the administrator for the Edwin C. Moore Inn of Court. With the Inn of Court, she organizes all of the activities that bring together 70 to 90 attorneys and judges each month to promote civility and discuss current legal issues.

Maureen was born and raised in Holstein, Iowa and is a third-generation attorney. She is proud of her Iowa roots and has dedicated her career to serving the people of Iowa. Maureen maintains a general practice that includes litigation and transactional work in the areas of family law, business law, personal injury, and probate. She has tried numerous cases from beginning to end and represented clients in front of the Iowa Appellate Court. Prior to McCormally & Cosgrove, Maureen has been a corporate attorney, an Assistant with the Iowa Attorney General’s Office representing Child Support Recovery in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and an Associate at the Baer Law Office in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a B.A. in History and from Hamline School of Law with a J.D. While at Hamline she participated in the Litigation Advocacy courses and interned at the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Maureen resides in the Beaverdale neighborhood of Des Moines with her husband, Matthew, and their three sons. When she is not at work, she is busy running between football, baseball, and basketball practice and playing with Poppy, her family’s golden retriever.

Kolby Warren is an associate attorney with McCormally & Cosgrove, PLLC. She is an integral part of the McCormally & Cosgrove team. Kolby was born and raised in Centerville, Iowa. She attended Simpson College, graduating Cum Laude with a major in Political Science and a minor in Business Management in 2015. After Simpson, she attended Drake Law School, graduating with her Juris Doctorate in May 2018 and was admitted to the Iowa Bar in September 2018. While at Drake, Kolby was the Secretary for the Drake Student Bar Association, a member and editor for the Drake Journal of Agricultural Law, and was active in the Drake Legal Clinic working on a variety of legal issues. While in law school, Kolby contributed to the book, Advances in the Biology and Management of Modern Bed Bugs, published in 2018 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Kolby is active in the Jack D. Levin Family Law Inn of Court, and is currently a board member for the 2020-2021 term. She has volunteered with the Pro Bono Project in New Orleans, Louisiana to provide family law and estate planning services to low-income clients and continues to be an advisor at her alma mater, for the Simpson’s College chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Kolby has a general trial practice that includes family law, probate, guardianship and juvenile matters. In her free time, she teaches kickboxing classes and stays busy remodeling her first home.

Sophie Wanek is an associate attorney with McCormally & Cosgrove, PLLC. Sophie was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa and grew up down the street from the McCormally & Cosgrove office. Sophie is a second-generation attorney. Sophie moved to Chicago to attend DePaul University for her undergraduate studies. She graduated Cum Laude with a double major in Political Science and English, with a concentration in Creative Writing, in 2017. After DePaul, Sophie moved back to Des Moines and attended Drake Law School, graduating with her Juris Doctorate in May 2021 and was admitted to the Iowa Bar in September 2021. While at Drake, Sophie specialized in classes related to a business and transactional practice and received her Business Law Certificate. Sophie was a member and editor for the Drake Journal of Agricultural Law, a member of the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity, a Student Ambassador, and President of Drake Law Women. Sophie practiced as a Student Attorney with the Drake Elder Clinic where she handled probate matters for clients in the Des Moines area. Sophie also spent a semester clerking for Judge Block the Polk County Associate Probate Judge. Sophie has a general practice that includes family law, business law, probate, and juvenile matters. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Nicholas, yellow lab, Lincoln, and tabby cat, Logan.
