I went with West Coast fertility because their reviews were good. Unfortunately, my experience did not match that of others. I cannot in good conscience give them the same good review. Dr. Kushnir was very impersonal and at times indelicate to our situation. My husband, who is very tough, even found his approach to be inappropriate. We had some really tough outcomes that were not dealt with with care or tact. I don't want to see anyone else go through that. It was painful. Secondly, I was very concerned with how disorganized the back office was. There were several times where my medications were misplaced and they had to go searching for them. Then I had an issue where they actually went against what I had put on my legal signed paperwork which was concerning on more than one level. That was close to a legal issue. At the end of the day, I just could not continue with them. There are some kind folks here but it left me with a general distrust of their capabilities and expertise so I ended up continuing care elsewhere. I don't like leaving negative reviews. I take no joy in doing that but the infertility and loss world is one that needs to be treated with so much gentility and care. I wouldn't recommend them because of that. I'm happy to see others have had success here but I would just say be careful. There are lots of amazing and caring doctors out there in Orange County, especially. Bedside manner is really important to consider with this area of medicine. Don't discount how uplifting and helpful it is to have a doctor who sees you as a human being and not just another number on a page. It makes a bigger difference than you realize.
How are these reviews accurate? Dr. Kushner doesn’t perform the ultrasounds himself, relying on his staff instead. On the day of my egg retrieval, he didn’t even verify my readiness with an ultrasound, despite my last check being four days earlier. The retrieval was done too early, and none of the eggs survived. It felt like I was just a number, and the procedure went ahead simply because it was scheduled, regardless of whether my body was not ready and I still had to pay for the entire failed procedure due to his incompetency. They say you get what you pay for and that’s definitely true here. His prices are low, but you’re gonna get low quality service and treatment with no success.
Dr. Kushnir has treated thousands of patients from all over the world for a variety of fertility issues. His focus has been on advanced reproductive age, low ovarian reserve and third-party reproduction. Dr. Kushnir works closely with urologists to treat couples with severe male factor infertility. Dr. Kushnir has been a recipient of numerous awards, including NY Top Doctors award recognizing his achievements in clinical practice, and the Excellence in Research award at Emory University recognizing his research on the role of mitochondria in female reproductive aging.
Dr. Perkins is a highly skilled, board certified Obstetrician & Gynecologist, with a focus on fertility issues. Originally from Kansas, Dr. Perkins attended Southern Methodist University and earned her medical degree from Des Moines University in Iowa, where she excelled academically as a member of the Sigma Sigma Phi and Student Osteopathic Surgical Association honor societies. Dr. Perkins completed her residency at the Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center/Rutgers NJMS in Livingston, NJ.
