I want to express my deepest gratitude to the reproductive center and our wonderful doctor! After five years of waiting, we finally decided to seek professional help. During the first month, I underwent all the necessary examinations and tests, and the doctor prescribed vitamins and several procedures. Everything was done very professionally, attentively, and with care. And already in the second month, the long-awaited pregnancy occurred! Sometimes, all it takes is one right step—and by the will of Allah, everything happens in its own time. We were very lucky with our doctor; we are immensely grateful and joyfully await the arrival of a new member of our family. Thank you for your work, support, and hope! VCRM is the best medical team I have ever worked with! Long story short, my husband and I have always wanted to parents. When things didn’t exactly go to plan, we sought out a couple top clinics in the area. After my initial consult with Dr. Sharara, I knew I’d be in the best hands at VCRM. Most people who go through fertility treatments/IVF will tell you that it’s physically easier than they thought it’d be, but emotionally harder. I wanted to work with a team that treated us like family and not a number, and where I felt fully supported. VCRM was that team. Dr. Sharara has wonderful bedside manner. I appreciated how honest, knowledgeable, and meticulous he is, and we always felt that he was doing absolutely everything in his power to make us successful. His staff are incredible as well. I loved the nurses (thank you Jo, Jessica, and Jill!), all of whom helped us every step of the way — including answering texts after hours, teaching us how to do injections, etc. Trisha and Cameron were also wonderful. They helped us navigate the financial/insurance piece with grace and were so punctual with appointments (there are a ton for IVF, so this meant a lot and signaled that the clinic really valued our time). VCRM’s small size allows you to work with the same doctor and nurses for every appointment, test, procedure, and ultrasound. We really appreciated this consistency from start to finish. I’m happy to report that our dreams have come true and I am pregnant (first transfer!), all thanks to Dr. Sharara! I was in tears at my last ultrasound - it’s strange because you start fertility treatments hoping to finish as soon as possible, but we loved VCRM so much that I was incredibly sad to leave. We could not be more grateful!
This is a long overdue note about our experience with Dr. Sharara and his amazing team at VCRM. After several years of not conceiving, we had our first consult with Dr. Sharara at the recommendation of a close and trusted family member. I’d very soon after discover that many friends and acquaintances were also his patients - and everyone was happy. After almost a year of being in his care, which included the diagnostic tests and discovering that I had been living with Stage IV endometriosis, 2 egg retrievals, fertilization, and eventually our transfer, I am beyond excited to share that we are 20 weeks pregnant. I appreciated his approach to diet, lifestyle, and treatment. We followed his guidance exactly - the supplements, the diet, the timeline. I even backed off from running (I am a marathoner / endurance runner). He was very direct in his recommendation, sharing statistics and science (much appreciated by my husband who is a numbers person!). He is extremely direct and will not beat around the bush (so grateful for that!). After our first retrieval which yielded many eggs but not as many viable embryos, we knew we wanted to try another retrieval. With a few tweaks, and continuation of his diet and lifestyle recommendations, we had an incredible response and all felt confident moving forward with a transfer. Aside from Dr. Sharara’s expertise and knowledge, it is the white glove service that his office provides. The nurses are incredible. During what can be such a scary time, filled with the unknown, and so much newness, the nurses (and particularly Jo) put me at ease, reducing any anxiety or stress. Friends of mine shared their fertility journey experiences they had with other clinics, lamenting that they felt they were a bit more of a “factory” - not so much personal interaction, limited engagement with their doctor, and little to no guidance on injections and medication. VCRM’s approach could not be more different. I realize everyone’s journey is their own, and process / style preferences may differ, I am forever grateful for the care and attention we received from VCRM. It is easy to write a positive review when the outcome is favorable. But I stand strong in my assertion that this review would be exactly the same had we not had such a favorable outcome because it is based on the standard of care - which truly should be an industry standard. 2 years ago, I drew my boundary line at IVF. I said I’d be open to IUI, medicated cycles, but not IVF. That was because I was not educated. Sadly, this is because we don’t talk about this enough and women are made to feel like it’s taboo. Dr. Sharara shared - honestly - that IUI would likely be unsuccessful and just delay what was already a narrowing timeline (due to my egg quality). The more I learned from him, the more I was encouraged to talk about our journey, and the more I connected with other women who had experienced IVF. And, eventually, my boundary line disappeared. IVF became less scary. My hope for anyone considering treatment and reading this is to just have the initial conversation, learn about your body and get the full picture before you draw your lines. You will be in the best of hands at VCRM. Thank you to Dr. Sharara and the entire VCRM team. You deserve every accolade. We miss seeing you all regularly, and God-willing we will be able to visit in a few months with our baby.
Dr. Sharara received his B.S in Chemistry in 1982, and his M.D in 1986 from the American University of Beirut. Our Virginia fertility doctor was on the Dean’s honor list during his premedical and medical studies. He completed his residency in OB/GYN at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC in 1991, followed by a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility from 1991 to 1994 at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD (which had only one spot per year at the time). He became an Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois and Michael Reese Fertility Center post fellowship but returned to the DC metro area as an Assistant Professor and head of IVF program for the University of Maryland in July 1996. He was promoted to Associate Professor before his departure from the University of Maryland in 2000. Dr. Sharara was an Associate Clinical Professor at George Washington University from 2003-2009 and currently is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Dr Sharara is also a reviewer for Fertility and Sterility and Human Reproduction, the two leading scientific journals in the area of Reproduction, along with Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics, Human Fertility, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Research, Imaging in Medicine, and the Middle East Fertility Society Journal, and Reproductive Sciences. Dr Sharara has been named one of America’s Who’s Who in Medicine and Health Care every year from 2002 to present, Who’s Who in America in 2004-16, America’s Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists in 2007-2016, and is one of the Lead Physicians Expert Panel. Dr Sharara was named to the editorial board of the Middle East Fertility Society Journal in 2013.
