Upon the birth of their son Wyatt, TJ reflected back on his family’s experience as patients. He realized that many aspiring parents were carrying the same emotional burden that he and his wife had—and that few fertility clinics took a holistic approach to consider the physical, psychological, and mental aspects of infertility. He soon founded Inception Fertility, a network of brands that brings compassion and patient-focused technology to every point on the fertility journey.

This review is for families who are about to spend money from their savings, investment accounts, or borrow through credit cards or loans in order to pursue fertility treatment. Please be aware: getting a refund is extremely difficult and can take many months, even in straightforward situations. My situation was simple. I paid upfront for fertility services. One week later, I became pregnant naturally. I fully understood that medications could not be refunded. However, I requested a refund for procedures that would never be performed, including egg retrieval, embryo testing, and embryo implantation. This occurred in August 2025. As of January 30, I still have not received my refund. I was initially told by billing that refunds take 3–5 months, and I prepared myself for that. What I was not prepared for was the lack of accountability once that timeline passed. I followed up consistently every two weeks. The most common response was that billing was “waiting for insurance to approve claims.” After continued follow-up, I learned that some claims had not even been submitted. My final claim was not completed until December, months after my refund request. Only then was the matter sent to corporate, where I was told the refund review alone would take another 8–10 weeks, regardless of prior delays. The local clinic confirmed they have no authority over refunds once payments reach corporate billing. Escalations, emails, and phone calls did not result in meaningful progress. This process creates real financial harm. Many fertility patients rely on high-interest credit cards, loans, or liquidated investments. During these extended delays, patients receive no compensation for the use of their money — no interest, no reimbursement for borrowing costs, and no financial protection. The larger issue is this: my money was held for over six months for services that were never rendered. Families pursuing fertility care are emotionally and financially vulnerable. Systems like this place all financial risk on patients while corporate entities retain control of large sums of money for extended periods of time. Before committing to treatment, ask detailed questions about refund policies, document everything, and be prepared to advocate for yourself. Greater transparency and accountability are urgently needed in fertility care.

Mr. Farnsworth was named one of Houston’s 40 under 40 in 2011 and was awarded the 2014 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Healthcare award.
James Grifo is the Chief Executive Physician at Inception Fertility, having previously held the position at Prelude Fertility, now an Inception brand, in 2018. He advises the board on medical trends and priorities that keep Inception at the forefront of patient care as well as state-of-the-art science-based practice in clinical and laboratory care. This guidance is informed in part by Dr. Grifo’s participation in the annual Physician Summit and Physician Advisory Board conference. Dr. Grifo began his career at Cornell Medical Center, one of the largest and most prestigious IVF programs in the US at that time. In 1995, he became Division Director, Professor, Program Director of the NYU Fertility Center, with a focus on providing safer, more effective care through science-based medicine and reproductive technology. Dr. Grifo has published 223 peer-reviewed articles as well as contributed to one of the most comprehensive egg-thaw outcome manuscripts. He has been listed annually among Castle Connolly Top Doctors since 1999, been recognized for Prize Papers by ASRM, and received the ASRM Star Award.
Chris Bright joined Inception Fertility as President in 2021, bringing more than 20 years’ experience in successfully scaling geographically dispersed health care companies while delivering a strong culture, physician engagement, quality, innovation, and financial performance. Responsible for all aspects of the business within the Inception family of brands, Mr. Bright maintains focus on de novo opportunities, the culture of the organization, physician and partner relationships, and providing excellent customer service. Prior to his role as President, Mr. Bright served on the board of Inception from 2015 to 2018. Mr. Bright was also previously Chief Operating Officer at Integrated Oncology Network, an industry leader in outpatient oncology services, leading all business operations for 48 facilities across the U.S. He served as Chief Operating Officer for SightLine Health, responsible for overall operations and developing plans to drive short- and long-term growth.
Alice “Ali” Domar, Ph.D., joined Inception Fertility in 2022 as Chief Compassion Officer. She is also a senior staff psychologist in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and an associate professor of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive biology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Domar is a health psychologist who focuses on the application of mind/body medicine to women’s health issues. Her research focuses on the relationship between stress and infertility, with a focus on the impact of cognitive behavioral interventions as well as access to care and patient retention. Dr. Domar is on the board for Parents Magazine and served 10 years on the board of Resolve, the National Infertility Association. She is the author of eight books, including Conquering Infertility and Patient-Centered Assisted Reproduction: How to Integrate Exceptional Care with Cutting Edge Technology, and is the co-creator of the apps FertiCalm and FertiStrong. She is a former chair ASRM’s mental health professionals group.
As Chief Strategy Officer at Inception Fertility, Adrian Elorza focuses on the company’s family of brands, including inspireRX and HavenCryo. His deep understanding of the fertility journey gives him strategic insight into process improvement and the patient experience. Prior to Inception, Mr. Elorza was Chief Operating Officer at RMA of Texas, the second clinical group to merge into the Inception Family. He has led clinical teams, founded a specialty pharmacy, and brings experience in financial operations to Inception, making him a perfect fit to identify better ways for Inception to serve its patients.
Julie Farris joined Inception Fertility in 2015 and serves as its Senior Vice President of Human Resources. With more than 20 years of demonstrated success in evaluating and implementing systems and processes to build business scalability, Ms. Farris is also uniquely experienced in serving as organization architect for health care companies experiencing high growth. Prior to joining Inception, Ms. Farris served as Vice President of Human Resources at Centerre Healthcare, a national company dedicated to developing and operating inpatient rehabilitation hospitals. Her strategy with a dynamic, lean corporate team achieved Centerre a $220 million turnaround built upon delivering superior clinical outcomes through 2,200+ dedicated employees. She also worked previously as Director of HR at AmSurg Corp (now Envision Healthcare), where she led human resource strategies to improve efficiency and achieve cost savings that allowed the company to grow.
Eric Gregory joined Inception Fertility in 2020 as its Chief Development Officer. He facilitates business growth by helping like-minded practices form strong, long-term partnerships with Inception. From start to finish, Mr. Gregory works to integrate these practices into the Inception Family quickly and seamlessly without disrupting patient care. His responsibilities include identifying interested practices, performing due diligence matters, and aligning all parties for a successful deal close and integration. Prior to Inception, Mr. Gregory was Associate Vice President of Business Development at MEDNAX (now Pediatrix) where he focused on mergers and acquisitions among women and children’s, anesthesiology, and radiology specialties. Mr. Gregory also has a background in international banking, having been based in London as Vice President, EMEA Structured Commodity Finance for Macquarie Group.
Leigh Herzog is an Executive Vice President at Inception. In this role, she is responsible for the financial performance and strategic growth operations of all Inception brands and clinic sites in the company’s Eastern division. Ms. Herzog joined Inception in 2017 and has led P&L expansion for several Inception clinics, including but not limited to NYU Langone Fertility Center, Advanced Fertility Center of Chicago, and Main Line Fertility Center. During her 5+ years at Inception, Ms. Herzog has served as a Director of Operations, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships, and Regional Chief Operating Officer for the Northeast. Prior to Inception, Leigh served as a Vice President of Operations at a digital diagnostics company, and as an Associate at the healthcare-focused private equity firm, Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe.
Mark Kehoe joined Inception Fertility as Chief Operating Officer in 2018. He is responsible for the clinical, operational, and financial objectives of the Inception family of brands. Prior to Inception, Mr. Kehoe served as the US Northeast General Manager at Fresenius Kidney Care, where he had full P&L responsibility for 350+ dialysis clinics with annual revenues of $1.5 billion served by 6,500+ employees. His additional health care experience includes serving as a Quest Diagnostics Managing Director with full responsibility for a regional clinical laboratory serving 7.5 million patients per year.
Bryan Markworth joined Inception Fertility in 2015 and serves as its Chief Information Officer. He focuses on strategic planning for enterprise infrastructure and oversees Inception’s application development life cycle. Prior to Inception, Mr. Markworth was Chief Information Officer at SightLine Health.
Matthew K. Maruca has served as General Counsel at Inception Fertility since 2019. Mr. Maruca’s legal expertise provides strong legal counsel and guidance to Inception officers on all matters facing the company. Prior to Inception, Mr. Maruca held the position for Nobilis Health Corp, a health care facilities company traded on the NYSE MKT. With more than a decade of experience in corporate and health care transactional law, he has served as an in-house attorney and in private practice at two national law firms, including Baker Donelson. Mr. Maruca also served as corporate, securities, and transaction counsel for international law firm Norton Rose Fulbright. Mr. Maruca was also the Senior Notes and Comments Editor for the Tulane Maritime Law Journal and served as a Moot Court Board Appointee.
Mark Montondon is a founding member of Inception Fertility and has a successful track record with more than 40 years of management and health care experience. In his current role, Mr. Montondon is responsible for the forming and maintaining of a pipeline of physician talent to meet the current and future needs of Inception’s rapidly expanding network. He serves as the primary contact with various professional organizations for physicians, coordinating activities between Inception and these groups. Additionally, he is integrally involved with a multitude internal physician-related matters. Prior to joining Inception, Mr. Montondon was the Vice President of Corporate Development for SightLine Health.
Lindsey Rabaut joined Inception Fertility™ as its Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) in 2023. She brings over 12 years of marketing and brand management experience within Fortune 100 and private equity-backed companies. In her role as CMO at Inception, Rabaut spearheads the organization’s comprehensive marketing and communications efforts. This encompasses executing omnichannel and go-to-market initiatives, driving brand awareness, and leading public relations endeavors. Before joining Inception, Rabaut served as the CMO of “I and love and you” (ILY), where her strategic prowess in branding, portfolio, and marketing solidified ILY as one of the fastest-growing brands in the ultra-premium pet space. Rabaut’s extensive experience in women’s health and baby commerce includes leadership roles at Abbott Nutrition, where she served as a Senior Brand Manager for its Similac Marketing division, and at Procter & Gamble, where she was a Brand Manager for the company’s Always Pads Marketing team. Rabaut’s achievements extend across various sectors, including personal care, baby care, pet food, and high-end fashion. Her proven track record of success is marked by expertise in consumer segmentation, portfolio mix, digital and shopper marketing, and full-funnel attribution. Rabaut holds a Master of Business Administration in Marketing from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. Her wealth of experience and strategic vision positions her as a key player in driving Inception Fertility’s marketing endeavors.
Kat Stillman is the Chief Product Officer and Executive Vice President at Inception. In this role she is responsible for driving the development and delivery of technology products for Inception’s patients and employees, including Prelude Connect, Prelude Cryopreservation, and Practice Edge. She also focuses on key partnerships with companies that contribute to the achievement of Inception’s strategic vision. Kat joined Inception in 2018, and was previously the Regional Vice President, West for The Prelude Network, where she was responsible for the clinical, operational, and financial objectives of Inception’s West Coast clinics. Prior to Inception, Kat served as a Regional Director of Home Programs at DaVita and a consultant at PwC’s Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences Practice.
John “JT” Thompson joined Inception Fertility™ as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in 2023. He oversees Inception’s financial activities, including corporate growth strategies and product/service development, and those of its ancillary brands, including The Prelude Network®, Bundl Fertility, MyEggBank®, Pathways Fertility, HavenCryo™ and NutraBloom®. Mr. Thompson has more than 30 years of financial experience in the healthcare industry in both public and privately-owned companies. His extensive involvement and leadership in strategy, operations, finance, corporate operations and acquisitions and development has resulted in increased business performance across various healthcare sectors. Before joining Inception, Mr. Thompson was the CFO of Confluent Health, a national family of physical and occupational therapy companies. His experience includes serving as CFO of Reliant Rehabilitation, a provider of contract rehabilitation services to the long-term care industry, and extending to roles in acquisitions and development for Vencor, Inc. (now Kindred Healthcare) and Humana, Inc.
