HRC Fertility currently has three state-of-the-art embryology laboratories located in Pasadena, Encino, and Newport Beach. The goal of each laboratory is to produce the best possible embryo that will achieve a successful pregnancy. In order to achieve this, we create the most stress-free environment possible that mimics physiological conditions that enable the embryo to grow. By using low oxygen incubators and a continuous culture medium, we can extend the life of an embryo in vitro for up to seven days. This may allow the patient to have more blastocysts to choose from.
HRC can safely vitrify blastocysts and recover virtually all of them post thaw. This allows us to freeze the embryos produced in a fresh cycle and transfer them in subsequent “more natural” (physiological) frozen embryo transfer cycles (FET).
HRC has historically been at the forefront of technological advances. For example, we were one of the first clinics to offer micromanipulation for the treatment of male factor infertility. HRC is still active in research and routinely presents at infertility conferences such as the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and Pacific Coast Reproductive Society (PCRS).
The factor that sets us apart in the industry is our remarkable laboratory personnel. We have highly trained and sought after, dedicated embryologists who are devoted to obtaining the best possible results for our patients.
Fertility treatments we specialize in include IUI (intrauterine insemination), IVF (in vitro fertilization), PGT (Preimplantation Genetic Testing), Single Embryo Transfer (SET), family building options for the LGBT+ community, egg freezing and 3rd party parenting programs such as egg donation and surrogacy. We also have extensive programs for male factor infertility and “unexplained infertility....

Dr. VanHise and Marianne McLurkin were an incredible team. From start to finish, they made sure I felt prepared, supported, and truly cared for. They checked in regularly, listened closely to any symptoms I had, and were attentive both before and after the procedure. My egg-freezing experience felt well-managed and reassuring, and I would absolutely return when I’m ready to take the next step in my fertility journey. What stood out most was how much I learned about my body and its response to hormones. Dr. VanHise took a very educational approach during ultrasounds and while reviewing medications (explaining not just what we were doing, but why) so I felt informed at every step. When it was time for the procedure, I felt calm, ready, and confident. Marianne was such a supportive presence throughout the process. She was on top of everything, checked in often, and incredibly kind. She also explained the injections extremely well, breaking it down step-by-step until I felt completely comfortable and confident. I’m deeply grateful and would recommend Dr. VanHise and Marianne without hesitation. Thank you so much, team VanHise!!!
Thank you Dr. Hakman!!! My 18- month IVF journey started when I was 43 years old, I'm now about to turn 45. At first, we started with a different doctor, somebody who was "the best" and "who all the celebrities go to". Well-- we didn't get great results there. Also, even though that doctor was nice, I didn't feel that he took the time to think about my particular situation or to help guide or prepare us. Everybody has a unique set of circumstances. I almost felt like I wasn't supposed to take up his time with questions and such. Our first egg retrieval got us 20-22 eggs, but because we didn't get any viable embryos, he immediately suggested we try an egg donor. We tried two more rounds with him, for a total of 3 rounds, and got 1 euploid embryo. At that point we decided to go to HRC Beverly Hills. Dr. Hakman explained that I was "exactly the kind of patient you continue to try with" because I had good egg reserves. This was based on DATA. She showed me a chart that showed age and the number of average eggs needed to be harvested in order to get ONE embryo. Well at my age, 44, it was something like 45 eggs! She emphasized that that was an AVERAGE, could be more, could be less. This was a great example of how she TOOK THE TIME to explain the data to me, to help level set my expectations and help me understand how many rounds I should prepare myself for. I understood then that it was a numbers game. We just had to keep harvesting and eventually we'd get some good embryos. She also suggested that we improve my husbands sperm and go to a urologist. It took an extra 2-3 mos, but it helped! Once he improved his sperm, we did two egg retrieval rounds with Dr. Hakman, and got 2 more euploid embryos! While she used the same medications that other doctor used, she kept the doses more consistent and steady, which was easier on me because I could almost put my injections on "autopilot". I didn't have to stress if I had to increase my dose that night or not. Also, I didn't have to come in for daily monitoring towards the end of the cycle like I did with the other doctor. He had me come in for monitoring every single day during the final week, which was hard because I live out of state, so I had to make arrangements every cycle to stay nearby. I only had to see her once or twice during the end of my cycles. So it was much less stress on me. Through the whole process, Dr. Sasha was incredibly encouraging, I felt like she was my cheerleader! Both she and her coordinator Jennie were always just a phone call or text away. Unless I was extremely concerned about something, I'd send most questions to Jennie. She would respond day or night. 7 days a week. We ended up having an unexpected delay, I tested positive for the endometriosis test, so we had to delay transfer for a few months so that I could treat that. It was a hard to wait so long, and the hormones to treat it really do a number on you, but Dr. Hakman called here and there to check in. Eventually once it was time for transfer, we hit the ground running again! First transfer didn't work, but the second did, and now I'm 3.5 months pregnant! Thank you Dr. Hakman and the HRC team!!!
I cannot recommend Dr. Llarena enough. She has been beyond incredible throughout my fertility journey... knowledgeable, honest, caring, and truly invested in her patients. She understands the IVF world inside and out, always explains best practices clearly, and never once made me feel like my questions were silly or irrelevant. After seeing five different doctors before her, I can confidently say she is the one I trust completely. Her entire team (Melody especially) is amazing as well (supportive, responsive, and genuinely kind). I’m so grateful to have found her and wouldn’t want to go through this with anyone else.
