GENESIS Fertility & Reproductive Medicine is one of many medical practices and fertility clinics in the New York City metropolitan area dedicated to the treatment of reproductive disorders. The stated mission of all of them is the alleviation of infertility. Still, they are not all alike. Some programs provide a limited scope of basic services, while some are focused mainly on the high-tech procedures. Some are based in hospitals, while others are free-standing, privately owned ventures. Some are large and protocol-driven while others are small, boutique-type offices. Good care can be obtained in many of these facilities. At GENESIS, we try to offer the best of both types. With multiple clinics in New York, GENESIS Fertility serves infertility patients from Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island, and Long Island.

Why do the nurses here never pick up the phone or call you back when they say they will? This practice is shoddy.

This review has nothing to do with results. Every person is a unique situation and it would be unfair to write a review because we did not have the favorable outcome that we wanted. With all that being said, I want to start off by saying we did not do enough research about different fertility clinics, and we were referred to Genesis, and it was near by so seemed convenient. Office is nice enough. It's nice that the pharmacy is also in the same building. Our doctor was very nice and personable. Now for the bad stuff... 1.) As you will see in other reviews, both here and Yelp, it does in fact seems like they are just trying to bill as much as possible. For example, they charged/prescribed us drugs we didnt even end up taking. They also "pre-charged" us for a test that we didn't even end up getting, an important test (we did get our money back). They also double charged us for something that we ONLY knew about because we contacted our insurance (they sent the claim back). Not sure why the billing department does this, but just make sure you actually look at all the receipts. 2.) Without getting into too many details, on the day of the the retrieval, we knew something was off and after the procedure and everything, something was definitely off. The worst part of this all is that, nothing was ever really explained to us on how or why this situation could have even happened, and I pushed and tried to get a legitimate answer. It was as if they didn't want to take any responsibility in the situation, when it was in fact partially their fault (turns out) 3.) After said situation, the doctor's recommendation was to get surgery which seems pretty extreme after 1 cycle, so we went to get a 2nd opinion...... We went to another very well known clinic in Downtown BK, and the experience was literally night and day. We were actually sort of mad at ourselves that we didn't shop around more and explore the options before committing. From day 1 it was just such a better experience. We sat down and spoke to the doctor, shared all the tests that were taking etc. did a sonogram and before we could even finish explaining, he essentially told us what happened (what went wrong). After that, he explained what he would do differently and shared the whole roadmap of options, with surgery being the literal last option. Then they sit you down with the coordinator where she explains everything in more detail, and then they sit you down with their financial advisor to explain all the costs. It's just a vastly different and more personal experience that seems like it's more geared towards the individual going through IVF, versus Genesis which seems like more general and going through the motions. This isn't completely the doctor's fault, it's just how they operate, even the experience with the nurses were day and night. So with all that being said, make sure you shop around, get multiple consultations, understand the financials and make sure that the clinic you decide to go with is what’s best for you and your family. IVF is expensive and whether your insurance covers a lot of of it or none of it you want to make sure you’re getting the best experience that will yield you the best results. *UPDATE since I first wrote this* Originally our Genesis doc mentioned that we basically weren't going to get any follicles on 1 of the ovaries because my wife has endometriosis on 1 of them, hence suggesting getting surgery to remove the endometriosis... fast forward to today, we have SEVERAL follicles on the ovary with endometriosis. SO HAPPY we went elsewhere.

Nurses never pick up the phone. They only take messages but they only sometimes call you back. When you show up for an appointment, they never know who you are and refuse to look at your chart. So, they make you tell them over and over again who you are and what you're doing there. Once I asked a nurse if they had access to charts and they said, "yeah, but nobody looks at them." The doctor was fine, but my interaction with them was brief. After an initial consult, it was all nurses who never knew who I was and who I had to call over and over again to get responses from.
