Gen 5 Fertility Center in San Diego, California, is a pioneering facility offering outstanding services to people worldwide. The team consists of experienced fertility experts from prestigious backgrounds who work together to help every client achieve the best results possible. Gen 5 Fertility Center offers comprehensive assisted reproduction services, including in vitro fertilization (IVF), intrauterine insemination (IUI), fertility preservation, and LGBTQIA+ family building. Embryos undergo preimplantation genetic testing to ensure they’re healthy and have the best chance of becoming the precious baby parents long for. To enhance the ovulation stimulation process, the team uses advanced ovarian rejuvenation techniques for those women who desire them. Diagnostic testing is also state-of-the-art at Gen 5 Fertility Center. The team offers a range of services, from semen analysis and hormonal testing to hysterosalpingography (HSG) and hysteroscopy. In addition, the practice’s fertility experts use minimally invasive procedures, such as laparoscopy, to evaluate and treat conditions that might reduce fertility, including endometriosis and uterine fibroids. No! I went in good faith with exceptional levels for my age. Dr. Woods is very charismatic. I have no doubt he's knowledgeable given that he successfully cloned himself. Do your research. He was very enthusiastic prior to planned egg retrieval after my ultrasound. I was in my mid-late 40s. I did regeneration as well. I technically didn't qualify for mini-IVF due to follicles and no pcos or thyroid problems per Gen 5. But, I did it! After Dr. Woods left the room, the nurse, Jennifer, informed me that it's all a formality. It makes older women feel better. Then, I could buy eggs, and she'd advise. I left and did not look back. Dr. Wood wrote me, but there was no way to respond back to him. How convenient. He was encouraging. He didn't know I studied at the doctoral level in psychology until my dissertation. I changed to the medical field. I'm not stupid. He seemed shocked I understand the phases of the cycle. Why? Psychneuroendocrinology! I am trained. Not at his level. But, I understand research. I know odds are much lower. So. The moral of the story? Go. To. Italy or Dubai. Do your own stem cells with more advanced care than Gen 5 offers. I wish I had the 10,000+ back that I wasted here. I should have gone to Italy sooner. There's where my research failed. Gen 5 is nowhere close to the company/clinics there. So, if you are older, please consider Italy. And, an MD in NYC works with women of any age who still cycle to have their own baby. Do your research. NYC New Hope is the one with the success with a 48 year old and her own egg! Stay away from Gen 5! If only I had gone to Italy even sooner!
In my experience, Gen5 and Dr. Wood are primarily driven by money. When things are going well and the treatment is yielding positive results, you receive attention and care. However, if complications arise and extra effort is required, it simply doesn’t happen. Despite claiming to provide personalized care, their approach is entirely cookie-cutter. The treatment planning emails are clearly copy-and-paste templates, sometimes sent without even updating key details. I caught multiple errors in my treatment plan on several occasions. Nothing about the process felt customized, and if you sit in the blood draw area long enough, you’ll notice the same pattern with every patient. The front desk staff always seemed unhappy and unwilling to help. As a patient, you’re already nervous and scared, and the first people you interact with make it clear they don’t want to be there. Every single staff member we encountered had the same indifferent attitude. Dr. Wood was unable—or unwilling—to help us. After our first round failed, none of our embryos made it to the blastocyst stage, and instead of making an effort to determine why, he simply said, “Sometimes we just don’t know why these things happen.” It felt as if he didn’t thoroughly analyze our bloodwork or explore possible underlying issues—even though he knew we only had two chances to make this work. His ego was evident. When we scheduled a follow-up to discuss adjustments for round two, he actually started standing up from the table while we were still speaking, telling us he had another patient to see. We received more scientific insights from the embryologist than from him. Both of our rounds were unsuccessful. When they emailed to inform us that our 2nd retrieval was unsuccessful (which was never from Dr. Wood, always and only the coordinator), their message contained the I’m sorry statement and then immediately followed by “let me know if you want me to connect you to finance for another round.” Unbelievable. They also force you to use an app, which serves no real purpose. The scheduling information in the app is identical to what they email you, and it doesn’t even provide your bloodwork results. It’s an unnecessary extra step that wastes time. I also want to address something from another review on Yelp. A Yelp user named Abbey mentioned that Dr. Wood performed an exam without gloves, and the clinic responded defensively, claiming he would “never” do that. I 100% believe her—because he did the same thing to me during an ultrasound, while the clinic director, Khadija, was in the room. My husband and I still talk about how shocking that was, and I regret not asking him to put gloves on. Overall, this clinic prioritizes profit over patient care. If you’re looking for truly personalized treatment with a doctor who is invested in your success, I strongly suggest going elsewhere. *I am fully transparent and am willing to backup any of this feedback with detailed info if you’re interested.
