Fertility clinics, egg-donation programs and applicable regulations can set different requirements. A preliminary agency decision also does not replace the fertility clinic&#8217;s medical evaluation for a specific donation cycle.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Medical conditions and medication<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some current or past medical conditions may make ovarian stimulation or egg retrieval less appropriate, while others require individualized review. A diagnosis or medication should not be described as an automatic disqualifier unless the treating clinic has evaluated it. Provide a complete medical and medication history so the physician can assess safety.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Age and ovarian response<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Programs commonly set an age range for egg donors because reproductive age affects expected egg quantity and chromosome-related risks. The exact range varies. Clinics may use ultrasound, anti-M\u00fcllerian hormone (AMH) and other information to estimate how the ovaries may respond to stimulation, but these tests cannot guarantee egg quality or a successful pregnancy.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">BMI and general health<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some clinics use BMI limits for anesthesia, medication dosing or procedural-safety reasons. There is no single nationwide BMI cutoff for egg donors, and BMI alone is not a complete measure of health. The clinic should explain its policy and evaluate the donor individually.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can tattoos, smoking or drug use disqualify an egg donor?<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Current nicotine or recreational-drug use may affect program eligibility. Donor screening in the United States also includes FDA-regulated communicable-disease screening and testing. Recent tattoos, piercings, travel or other exposures may affect the timing or assessment under current rules, but an old blanket \u201c12-month tattoo rule\u201d should not be assumed to apply to every donor.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Personal and family genetic history<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A known genetic condition or significant family history may require genetic counseling or additional testing. Being a carrier for a recessive condition does not automatically mean someone cannot donate; many healthy people are carriers. The sperm source may need testing for the same condition so reproductive risk can be assessed.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can depression or mental-health treatment disqualify an egg donor?<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Psychological consultation may explore motivation, expectations, support, identity-release issues and the possibility of future contact with donor-conceived offspring. A history of mental-health treatment or use of psychiatric medication should not be presented as an automatic universal exclusion. Safety and readiness require individualized professional assessment.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Availability and logistics<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Donation requires monitoring appointments, medication administration, retrieval and recovery. Reliable transportation and the ability to follow the clinic&#8217;s schedule matter, but the number and timing of appointments vary by protocol. Ask what travel, lodging, childcare and lost-wage expenses are covered.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why complete information matters<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do not hide a diagnosis, medication, family condition or previous donation because you fear being declined. Accurate information protects you and helps clinicians assess risks for the treatment and potential offspring. If you are unsure whether something affects eligibility, disclose it and ask the treating clinic.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bottom line<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many factors can affect egg-donor eligibility, but broad online lists often overstate what automatically disqualifies someone.
